JAMES CAMERON’s TITANIC has ended THE HUNGER GAMES’ two-week reign at the top of the U.K. box office.
Audiences flocked to see the 3D re-release of the 1997 epic, which earned $4.5 million (£2.8 million) over the Easter holiday weekend (07-08Apr12).
The film’s release marked the 100 year anniversary of the doomed liner’s voyage, and when added to its original haul it has now earned $112 million (£70 million) in the U.K. alone.
Box office smash The Hunger Games dropped to second place after taking $3.7 million (£2.4 million), narrowly seeing off competition from fairytale fantasy Mirror Mirror.
Animated adventure The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists fell one place to fourth after plundering $3.2 million (£2.1 million), while Wrath of the Titans rounded out the top five with takings of $2.1 million (£1.6 million).
