Back Pain: A Common Problem
Back pain is one of the most common problems in the world. According to experts, the chances of a person to experience back pain in his/her lifetime is about 80%. It can range from dull to sudden acute back pain.
Symptoms of Back Pain include
- Slight muscle ache
- Shooting of stabbing pain in the back
- Limited flexibility
- Limited motion
If a person suffers from back pain for more than three days then it is called Chronic Back pain. It is often progressive and the reason is hard to determine.
Most of back pains go away on their own although some medication like pain relievers to reduce discomfort and anti inflammatory drugs to reduce inflammation may be required. In some cases cold and hot compresses also helps to reduce back pain although no scientific reason is available for that. Most of the doctors recommend bed rest for 1 to 2 days. But above all, exercise is a great way to recuperate from back pain and it also strengthens back and abdominal muscles.
But if back pain does not go away from these medications and remedies, then surgery may be required.
Your chances of suffering from back pain may increase if:
- You have a family history of back pain
- You are a male
- You had a back injury before
- You are pregnant
- You are over weight
- You are smoking
Back pain can be avoided by regular exercise and correct posture.
Life with Back Pain
Back pain can cause some serious damage to one’s social and personal life. It affects one’s ability to walk and to sit for a long time. Social gatherings which involve dancing and drinking or some other physical game may prove to be a great source of pain to the victim. Moreover, a person with back pain may find it hard to carry out their daily routine work such as washing; dressing etc. some find it hard to sleep in normal positions. It also greatly affects one’s sex life as intercourse may prove to be painful and can be restricted by pain.
Life after Back Pain
Once the back pain is over, we are required to be more careful in order to avoid it from coming back. We need to be more cautious with the way we move, bend or lift. Simple exercises such as walking and stretching helps a lot from recurring of pain to. Also one must find a good mattress or mattress pad to make sleeping as comfortable and supportive as possible.
