For many of us, going to the beach is an important part of the summer lifestyle. It is the time of year that we feel livelier and happier. This could have something to do with a way of living that is freer. This feeling of freedom is also exhibited in how our dress sense changes during the summer months.
After the dark dreary months of winter all the colors of summer are very welcome. Clothing takes on the colors of the sea, sky and lovely sunsets. These are shown in fabrics that are in shades such as blue, indigo, turquoise, green, pink and red. We also wear clothing that exhibits the colors of summer foods like apricot and watermelon.
Not only are the colors of summer important to us when choosing our summer wardrobe but so is the design.
Of course, summer is the hottest time of year. Locations near the beach are also more humid and the last thing you want is to wear clothing that is restricting. In such a climate, tight fitting clothes will trap perspiration and you will feel very uncomfortable. Summer clothes means clothing that is simple and comfortable.
The most simple and comfortable summer clothing is made of natural and flowing fabrics. Examples of fabrics suited to summer would be cotton, silk and hemp. These natural fabrics allow the skin to breath. They can also be very lightweight and even sheer. The weight of the fabric depends on the weave.
Two of this year’s favorite beach items are the tunic and the wrap skirt. The standard tunic design is a loose fitting top with a round or v neck and three quarter or wrist length sleeves. The summer tunic can be plain or adorned with intricate embroidery or beading. This item can be hip length, mid-thigh length, knee length or ankle length. A beautiful tunic can take you from the beach to cocktails with ease.
The wrap skirt is an item that never seems to go out of style. This is a great little number that simply wraps around the hips or waist and ties – no zips or buttons. You can quickly and easily take it off at the beach to reveal your bikini. Likewise, at the end of the day you simply wrap it back on. A wrap skirt comes in varying lengths and looks great with a tank top or your bikini top. Imagine a bronze tan with a turquoise bikini top and lime green wrap skirt – eye catching!
