Blake Lively Showcases True Hollywood Glamour for Gucci Premiere
When Gucci decided to launch their new fragrance, Gucci Premiere, they knew they wanted an advertising campaign that was vintage Hollywood and full of glamour. To accomplish this, they turned to veteran actress Blake Lively, who oozes style and sophistication in the spotlight.
Blake is perhaps best known for her lead role in the TV series “Gossip Girl” and for her role in the recent film “Savages,” directed by Oliver Stone. She is also known for her classic American looks and sophisticated style. Her long blonde hair and delicate but strong features make her a perfect choice for Gucci Premiere, a fragrance inspired by old Hollywood and one that invites you to embrace your own red carpet moment.
In the new commercial campaign, Blake is seen wearing a beautiful form-fitting golden gown while standing in a tall Los Angeles building looking out at the nighttime skyline, and then also walking through the dessert accompanied by a very large fan. In the print ad, she is standing close to the building’s window with her reflection overlooking the L.A. cityscape. The idea of taking glamour with you wherever you go is perfect for someone as talented as Blake, and a perfect message for the new Gucci Premiere fragrance.
It may surprise you to know that the commercial was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who recently directed the 2011 crime thriller “Driver,” starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan. The movie was gritty and violent and action-packed, so Nicolas may have seemed like an odd choice to step behind the camera for a fragrance commercial that was meant to evoke style and sophistication. However, he handled it perfectly and the commercial is set to debut at the Gucci party for the Venice Film Festival on September 1.
If the ad itself seems familiar to you once you see it, many have remarked that it looks very similar to an ad for Chanel handbags that featured Blake. In their ad Blake was standing next to a mirror looking off at the camera from her own reflection. In the Gucci campaign, her reflection is portrayed in the window behind which is the Los Angeles skyline.
Some have wondered if Gucci is trying to rub salt in the wounds of Chanel after having stolen their golden girl for their own campaign, or if they’re merely copying a campaign that was so successful in the past. Whatever the reason, both ads are glamorous and thought-provoking and perfect for the product and for Blake herself.
Lively has said of the campaign, “I admire the qualities of the Gucci Premiere woman and feel honored to represent the fragrance.” No doubt Gucci is just as honored to have such a classic beauty as the new face of their line as well!
