Caring for your Hair in Winter
Winter is the time when we cover up and this also goes for our hair. If you want protection against the cold you need to wear a cap or hat. The more we wear caps and hats the easier it is to overlook our hair. It’s just so easy to pull on a knitted cap.
Remember, the day will come when you need to show off your hair. If you have neglected your hair it will show. The only way to have lovely hair is to maintain the condition of your hair. This means maintenance management must take place during every season of the year.
Winter provides its own problems when it comes to hair such as:
Static in Hair
The most common causes of static are dryness and/or hair being over-burdened with hair products.
During winter it is imperative to start using a hydrating (moisturizing) shampoo and conditioner. Consumers are provided with a range of prices from very economical to expensive. Invest in a deep conditioning treatment every week. You can buy a suitable product to use at home or go to a salon. This special treatment will put the moisture back into your hair.
Never use hairspray as it strips the hair of moisture. Use a special conditioning gel or finishing lotion/balm after blow styling to keep your hair in position.
Too Much Hair Product
Of course, it is essential to use the right products on your hair and to use it regularly. However, there are those who believe more is best. When it comes to skin and hair products this is not true. Products are mixed to a specific dosage and are usually quite rich and intensive. This is why you must only use the amount given on the instructions. The products will build up on your hair making it heavy, brittle and static. Normal washing won’t get rid of it. Use clarifying shampoo to strip all the build up from your hair.
Flyaway and Thin Hair
Flyaway hair is usually dry and brittle. It is important not to over brush flyaway hair to avoid easily breaking.
It is possible to experience hair thinning during winter. This is due to a noticeable change in temperature. If this is an annual experience for you then all you can do is use hair products to plump up or voluminous your hair until summer comes. This product is available as a gel or spray. You can spray a light conditioner on your hair after showering. Such a leave in conditioner will make the hair pliable for a wide tooth comb. Don’t rub hair with a towel rather gently dab dry.
A very good tip is not to shampoo hair daily. Every time hair is shampooed you strip it of natural oils. It is healthier to rinse hair one day and gently shampoo the next. An alternative is to cut out the shampoo and use a conditioner that gently cleanses with ingredients such as rosemary and menthol.
Knowing how to cope with winter hair problems will allow your hair to be seen at any time of the season.
