Chopard Announced as the Official Jeweler of the Upcoming “Diana” Movie
There is much anticipation surrounding the upcoming movie “Caught in Flight,” about the late Diana, Princess of Wales, starring Naomi Watts. Diana was an iconic and tragic figure with much mystery surrounding her short life and death, and the film is said to reveal many secrets about her relationship with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan before her death in Paris in 1997. Watts has spoken openly about her nervousness in playing Diana properly, although she said it was a role that she just couldn’t refuse.
The film also promises to be a feast for the eyes, as Diana was known for her style as much as she was for her life itself. Swiss jewelry designer Chopard has been announced as the official jewelry and watch designer for the film, and many are excited to see the pieces they will be designing, either as new items for star Naomi Watts to show off or as duplications of ones owned by the late Princess.
Chopard is no stranger to the world of cinema. They are an official partner of the Cannes Film Festival and the creator of the much coveted Palme d’Or and Trophée Chopard, and have designed many of the pieces worn by celebs on the red carpet at Cannes. Their expertise seems like a natural fit for a movie about the late Princess. A news release from Chopard about the partnership said, ”Chopard is proud to be the exclusive jewellery and watch partner for this film and to dress Naomi Watt’s character.”
While news is still sketchy about what pieces will be featured in the film, a still of Naomi Watts as Diana was recently released where the actress was seen wearing a sumptuous choker set with three rows of diamonds and rhinestones, and a replication of Diana’s famous sapphire and diamond earrings. The earrings were a favorite of the late Princess, and they were a perfect complement to her sapphire and diamond engagement ring, now worn by her son’s wife, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. It’s likely that the movie would feature a replication of that ring itself, although these rumors have not yet been confirmed.
The movie is scheduled to be released sometime in 2013, and when star Naomi Watts was first spotted getting into character for the role, many remarked on the similarities between the two. Her hair was cut into Diana’s classic softly feathered style and Naomi’s sweet and slight smile resembled the late Princess in a very eerie way. Many are hoping that the story will be well-received and that audiences will respond to it favorably, as Diana was as respected as a humanitarian and mother as much as she was loved as a princess.
