Kauai, otherwise known as the Garden Isle due to its beautiful and lush greenery is the fourth biggest island belonging to Hawaii. The island is one of contrasts with its beautiful green valleys and huge mountains and sharp cliffs. Against a gorgeous backdrop of sparkling waterfalls and incredibly beautiful rainforest, this island really is the chocolate box idea of paradise.
The island itself is in parts so untouched and inaccessible that one needs to visit certain areas by boat or even helicopter.
Getting Around the Island
There are all the usual options available to tourists visiting the islands. You can opt to catch a taxi, bus or rent a car for the duration of your stay. The bus service on the island is limited however so it makes more sense to hire a car. The island boasts one major road which encircles it.
Driving here is an interesting experience. Ensure that you drive slowly and take lots of notice as there are not many traffic lights on Kauai!
Things to Do
The island is a wonderful place for those who love the majesty of nature. It is also an outdoor enthusiast dream come true. Here you can kayak on the Wailua River, go swimming and diving around the beautiful unspoilt beaches and enjoy walking in the state park.
Whilst you are here, ensure that you take in the local hospitality in the villages. People here are as warm and welcoming as you have heard!
As you will expect from this exotic island, here you can find world class dining alongside little beach hut diners. Why not try some of the local specialities whilst you are here. Beautifully fresh seafood is just one of the most attractive aspects of visiting the island. Try some wahoo or ahi at the South Shore which is home to some of the island’s most amazing restaurants. Whilst you are out and about, try to ensure that you find the time to watch some traditional hula dancing at a luau as this is typically Hawaiian and a lot of fun too!
Kauai is a beautiful island with a charm all of its own, so what are you waiting for?
