Does a Man’s Name Influence Your Attraction to Him?
Many details about a man will make him attractive to you. For some women, they’re drawn to chiseled features or height or broad shoulders, whereas others appreciate intelligence or humor or an easygoing way. When it comes to his looks, you may also zero in on certain details, such as dark hair or nice teeth or even a hairy chest.
There are also certain details that may make a man seem much less attractive. Some women are turned off by that hairy chest or may be repulsed by a man with bad teeth. By the same token, a man’s name may be something that draws you to him or it may be something that actually turns you off.
Think of what many strong, masculine names convey. Names like Mason, Logan, Christian, Gavin, or Hunter may convey a sense of strength and authority. Other names seem to be associated with wealth and status. When we hear names likes Preston, Lucas, Sebastian, Evan, Carter, and Eli we think old-world dignity.
Some names also seem to convey traditional values and are considered classic. John, Jacob, James, William, Daniel, Benjamin, Joshua, and Christopher are timeless. Names that have become popular in recent years may be associated with a modern appeal and personality, such as Jarrod, Gavin, Hayden, Jaden, or Bryson. Other names may make a man seem edgy, such as Xavier or Jaxon.
Names may also work to someone’s detriment. You may be hesitant to date a Harold or Bertrand because these names were popular some decades ago, and may be associated with an older man. Very unpopular names may even be difficult to pronounce, such as Talmadge or Llewellyn. Other names may simply be unusual which may put you off a bit; ask yourself if you would ever date an Asa or Brogan or Darius. Some names tell you something about a man’s parents who named him. What would you think of the parents of a man named Ziggy or Dusk or Andromeda?
There may also be times when a name reminds you of someone else, making it difficult to use it especially in a relationship. Women may have a hard time dating a man with the same name as their father or brother or other close relative. They may not want to date someone with the same name as their ex-boyfriend or ex-husband. Other names may have a double entendre meaning; the names John and Dick and Peter have taken on some very unflattering slang usage in the past few years, which may make it hard to say those names out loud. It can also be difficult when you have the same or similar name as someone else; Erin and Aaron, Kris and Chris, Toni and Tony, or Dani and Danny may be an odd coupling as far as names are concerned.
Ask yourself if names influence you when it comes to attraction to a man. If his name is the only issue you have with him, well, that’s what nicknames are for!
