Does Using a Hairdryer Damage Your Hair?
Every woman wants sleek, healthy, shiny hair, and what you put on your hair and how you care for it throughout the day will greatly affect how it looks overall. There are products you can use to make it shinier and to make it look healthier, and to give it volume and bounce as well.
As important as it is to mind what you put on your hair, it’s also important to consider how you treat your hair as you style it. Many women use a hairdryer every day and may wonder if this is drying out their hair’s texture and making it brittle.
There is no one simple answer to that question; heat will evaporate moisture which is how hairdryers work. There are two types of moisture that are affected by hairdryers, the water from washing your hair and your hair’s own natural oils which are what keep it looking shiny and sleek. The hotter the setting on your hairdryer and the longer you use it, the more likely you are to have it evaporate those essential oils.
Using the hairdryer for light use and stopping its use once your hair is dry is going to protect your hair and keep it healthy. You might also add styling gel to your hair to protect it from the dryer’s heat, and switch to a cooler setting especially as your hair gets closer to being dry.
If you must use a hairdryer every day, be sure you’re adding moisture back to your hair so it stays healthy and sleek. Using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and give it a deep conditioning once per week. This will make sure you undo any damage done by using those hairdryers regularly.
