Do’s and Don’ts for Those With Acne
Acne can be unsightly and embarrassing, but many who have this condition actually make it worse because of how they try to treat it. Some topical medicines can be very harsh and dry your skin, and using the wrong makeup products to cover your acne can clog pores all the more and cause additional breakouts.
To treat your acne, first don’t pick at it as this will irritate your skin and cause scars. Don’t use harsh cleansers or anything that makes your face feel dry and tight. Don’t neglect to look at the makeup you use and be sure it’s water-based; look up the brand online and note if it’s non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores.
Don’t use powder on oily skin as this will settle into pores and clog them more, but instead, use blotting tissue for oily spots. Don’t wash your face more than twice per day as you’ll strip away the good oils your skin needs.
Do use a cool, wet cloth for cleaning your face rather than harsh cleansers. Most makeup today is light and oil-free so a wet cloth is all that’s needed for cleaning, and this won’t strip your skin. Do use a toner if you have oily skin, but only once per day and very sparingly.
Do moisturize your skin. Your skin needs a certain level of oil to be healthy, and if you strip your skin with cleansers and then don’t moisturize it, this can actually cause it to be even oilier and more prone to breakouts. Try vitamin E oil as this is natural and nonirritating.
Lastly, do visit a dermatologist if you have severe acne as he or she can recommend many products that help to clear your skin and keep it looking healthy and radiant.
