Enhance Your Blue Eyes Like Alexis Bledel
Young actress Alexis Bledel is best known for her role as Rory Gilmore in the hit TV series The Gilmore Girls, and for playing the role of Lena in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Her easygoing nature makes her a natural in front of the camera, and her big blue eyes make her one of the sweetest-looking actresses working today.
While Alexis may have naturally large and bright blue eyes, simple makeup tips and tricks can enhance any eye color and make them seem larger, brighter, and deeper. For blue eyes, it can be tricky to make them seem larger and brighter because too much blue eye shadow can look outdated and downright tacky, whereas other colors can enhance your eyes and make your skin tone look warm and rich. Knowing how to apply your eye shadow is just as important as the color you use, so your eyes look big and bold but not overdone.
To make your blue eyes stand out as Alexis does, first start with a creamy, bright base. This will be an eye shadow in a light color with a bit of glitter or shine to it. Apply this to your entire lid, blending it well so you have just a touch of color. Add another coat to the lower part of your lid, near the eyelash line. This light color will sit next to your eyes and make them brighter.
Next you want to add a darker color in the fold of your eyelid. If you have darker, olive skin, use a darker brown shade. This will add depth to your eyes and make them stand out by contrast. If you have lighter skin, use a lighter shade of brown, something in the taupe family or a peachy shade.
Once you’ve applied this shadow to the creases of your eyelids, use a light blue shadow over this dark shadow, adding just a small sweep right over the dark color. The darker base will keep the blue eye shadow from looking too bright and if you use just a small amount in the crease, this will bring out your eyes without letting the shadow become overpowering.
For dressier occasions you may want to add a bit more blue shadow along the lash line but this should be a very slight line that is very close to the lashes. Blend carefully so the shadow doesn’t stand out and so that it enhances the eyes. Note your look in the mirror and if the shadow is more prominent than your eyes, you need to blend even more. Keep your other makeup colors soft as Alexis does so your eyes can be the centerpiece of your look.
