Fashion Tips for a First Date
Deciding what to wear on a first date can be very stressful. Before making the decision, make sure you know where the date is and what the dress-code and expectations are for the location. If your date won’t tell you where you are going, at least ask if you should wear jeans, a dress, or something specific, be specific because men aren’t as technical when it comes to women’s clothing.
Wear Something Similar to First Time You Met
You’ve probably created a good first impression, because you’ve been asked out on a first date. Odds are your date remembers something that you wore – the color, the design, if you wore jeans or you wore a skirt. So, wear something similar but appropriate to where your date is taking you. If you met online, wear something in the same color as your profile photo.
Confident women are attractive women, so wear something that makes you feel good. You do not have to wear something that shows a lot of skin or makes you look trashy. If you are not comfortable in your clothes, it will show. You don’t want your date attracted to your clothes or what you are showing off, you want your date attracted to YOU. If you are comfortable in jeans and a great tee and it’s appropriate to wear that to your date, wear it! Just be sure the jeans and tee fit you, not too big or too small. It you choose to wear something casual, take the time to be sure your outfit is clean, in a good state of repair, and ironed. If you love to wear dresses, wear a dress. If you hate wearing heels, wear your favorite flats. Your date will notice your assets, so you do not have to flaunt them so much that you are uncomfortable.
Don’t Overdo the Make-Up
Men are not big fans of make-up, so use it sparingly. Wear what you normally wear, or try a subtly different lip or eye color. The first date may not be the best place to try out a cat eye if you’ve never tried one out before that night. You want to look like you, not the model in the airbrushed magazine advertisement.
Conversation Piece: Great Accessory
A first date is a great time to wear a conversation piece, like antique jewelry or a great scarf you found on your last vacation. First dates can have awkward silences, so wearing something with a story is a great way to prepare yourself for a great night of conversation.
If you know that you get cold, bring a sweater or wrap. If you know you get warm, lather on the deodorant. If you look good in pink, wear pink. If dangly earrings get caught in your hair, wear studs. The most important fashion tip for a first date is to be you.
First date fashion does not have to be a headache. Wearing something that is comfortable, clean, and appropriate for the date is what matters. Ask your date where you are going and pick something that shows you and gives you something to talk about, like a great brooch or scarf.
