For a Bit of Mystery and Romance, Try ‘Falling’
The novel ‘Falling’ by Jolene Perry has a little bit of something for everyone. The story revolves around Dana, a spoiled city girl that gives up her life to hide out in a country lodge, and while there she finds herself confused over her feelings for country guy Jason and wondering if she really belongs back in the big city.
In the book, Dana witnesses a murder and is then introduced to Craig, a rough and tumble city detective handling the case. Craig suggests Dana move away temporarily to a country lodge until she can testify at the trial, for her safety. Dana resists the notion but eventually gives in, taking a waitress job at a country lodge to make ends meet and to keep up her charade. While there she meets Jason, the owner of the lodge and a friend of Craig’s, who normally would not tolerate Dana’s spoiled, big city tantrums if it were not for his friendship with Craig. Jason and Dana soon find themselves more tolerant of one another as Dana begins to see him as less judgmental and moody and more funny and complex than she imagined, and Jason realizes he sees in Dana all the traits of the women who have hurt him previously but with some fine qualities of her own.
The novel offers a bit of something for everyone; it is set against a backdrop of a murder mystery and trial, and easily moves from the big city and its hustle and bustle to the more laid back, relaxed atmosphere of the country. All the characters are rich and true and offer something you can easily relate to, and while they have their flaws they’re still easy to understand and empathize with and none leave you wanting something more. The story has its own twists and turns and an assortment of supporting characters that give it true depth and charm.
‘Falling’ is not an overly deep novel; if you are looking for a drawn-out, true crime mystery this may not be the right choice for you. The main focus of the book is the love story that develops between Jason and Dana, the ‘fish out of water’ city girl that is forced to reexamine her life and her values as her time spent in the country comes to a close. The romance is lighthearted but very sincere and something that easily draws you in right from the start.
If you are looking for an involved and entertaining read, ‘Falling’ by Jolene Perry may be the book for you. You will no doubt appreciate the characters and their personalities that are forced to view each other in a new light, and will find yourself falling for them as the story progresses.
