For a Fresh Twist on Fashion, Grab a Tie!
Neckties have long been a choice for men particularly in office settings; they complete the look of a suit and give him a polished, professional appearance. While ties have gone through many fashion changes and looks, they haven’t always been the choice for women. Most women prefer softer necklines and perhaps a bit of jewelry or a scarf to complete her look, but a bold necktie can be a great way to add a pop of personality to your wardrobe. It can also be a good choice for professional women who are looking for a more gender-neutral style.
To wear a necktie for the office, don’t assume that a stiff shirt buttoned to the neck is a good choice; this might look too mannish. Choose a soft silk tie in a feminine color and leave one or two buttons open on your shirt. Loosen the knot of the tie so that it softly drapes your front; this will keep your look feminine but still professional. If you do want an ultra-chic look, choose a double-breasted jacket with short lapels so that you can button your shirt to the neck, cinch your tie and then button the jacket over this. You won’t be calling so much attention to your tie and the entire ensemble will look pulled together and complete.
For a really casual look you can wear with jeans, choose a white cotton shirt and a colorful tie. Roll the sleeves up slightly, unbutton the shirt as much as you’re comfortable with, and tie the tie with a very sloppy, loose knot. Pull the two ends apart just a bit so they hang away from each other; this adds to the casual style. It might also be good to dress up your look with some oversized necklaces that work with your tie. Tuck them under the collar of your shirt so they hang properly in front of the tie.
If you want a sexy, seductive look, lose your shirt altogether. Button a suit jacket right over your bra and allow your tie to hang loosely, or wear a soft silk camisole under your jacket. This is a fun look for a date or night on the town.
