For a Splash of Sophistication, Wear Some Gold!
Gold is a great color for your wardrobe; it is sophisticated and dressy and neutral enough for any skin tone or hair color. Many celebrities wear gold on the red carpet especially for an awards show, when they want to look their best. Because gold is such a strong color, you want to use some caution when incorporating it into your wardrobe, but if you do it properly you may see it’s just the right pop of personality you need.
A beautiful gold dress can make you stand out from the crowd when you attend more formal occasions. Today’s “little black dress” is often anything but black, and gold is a good alternative. However, because it’s so bold and daring you may want to consider how to tone it down especially if you’re wearing a floor-length gown. Choose a gold material that has other color threads running through it to break up the monochromatic look. Some crystals or other beadwork can also be very stunning and keep the gold from being overpowering. If you do want a full-length gown that is all gold, choose a simple sheath cut so that the gown isn’t full and just “too much.”
A shorter gold dress is also a good option for cocktail parties or holiday parties, and often a shorter dress can be all gold without it seeming too formal or dressy. For a short or long dress, consider breaking up the look with long black gloves and a black clutch.
Adding gold to other parts of your wardrobe is also good especially for winter when you may opt for grey, black and brown clothes; these can seem dull and drab, and a nice gold blouse or sweater can break up this look. A gold silk blouse under a black pantsuit can add lots of style to your outfit, and a gold sweater with a brown skirt can be a perfect choice for a casual day.
For a special dinner or a night on the town, have some fun with gold pieces in your wardrobe. Look for a sexy silk blouse that drapes over one shoulder, or a gold short skirt with beads and crystals. Pair this with a black blouse or even a simple tee for a fun look.
Be sure you don’t overdo with the gold no matter your choices. Gold trousers may look good on a rock star but they’re probably not right for anyone else. A gold dress with gold shoes and gold clutch can be too much of the color, so dress down your accessories and keep your jewelry simple. You may also want to change your makeup to some gold or earth tones to coordinate with your gown or your gold blouse.
