For A Twist On Skateboarding – Try Street Surfing
Skateboarding has been popular for many years now and even the grownups are getting in on the action. There’s no thrill like riding your board up and down ramps and learning how to do flips and jumps just like the kids. It’s a great way to get out of the house and to enjoy some easy exercise. For a modern twist on this classic sport, try street surfing.
Street surfing uses a revolutionary new type of board that is much more flexible and easier to propel and control than a typical surfboard. With a street surf board, you don’t need to keep pushing yourself along with one foot but can use the back part of the board for propulsion, much like how a fish uses its own tail fin to push itself through the water.
A street surfing board is easier for anyone to ride and control because of its design which makes it a great choice for adults to use, and for kids as well. To ride a street surfing board, you simply give yourself a slight push to get yourself going and then move the back part of the board back and forth to keep you propelled. Like a regular skateboard, you steer by leaning your board in the direction you wish to go and stop by leaning backwards. With a street surfing board, you aren’t constantly pushing yourself along which means you get tired less quickly.
Street surfing doesn’t mean literally surfing the streets; this is dangerous. Like all skateboarding, you find a safe place to ride or go to a skate park and use their ramps and tracks. If your child expresses a desire to try street surfing, be sure they’re at a safe park or are staying on the sidewalks rather than trying to actually use the streets. They should also avoid public buildings as this is bothersome to those inside and is often considered trespassing. Take your child to a playground or park if they want to try out their street surfing board and let them get exercise as well.
When you or your child does try street surfing, be sure you wear the proper protective gear. Falls from skateboards of any type can result in broken bones and concussions, especially falls from ramps and higher surfaces. Remember your knee pads as well since falls can also result in scraped skin and this is not only painful, but it also leads to infections.
Street surfing is fun and enjoyable for everyone in the family and is a great sport to try for yourself. Invest in a good board and the right equipment and you’ll find that it may be your new passion as well.
