For an Enthralling Read, Check Out ‘Mind Games’
If you are looking for an enthralling, mind-bending read for yourself or your teen, check out ‘Mind Games’ by Kiersten White. This book is part science fiction, party fantasy, and one that you are never going to be able to put down. It is a great choice for the upcoming winter season when you want something to keep you company during those chilly nights by the fire or for when you need something engrossing to read while on the plane back home.
‘Mind Games’ tells the story of two sisters, Fia and Annie, both of whom have their own gifts that are being exploited. Fia has an instinct that is always right; her first feelings always come true, making her an empathic person second to none. Her intuition is completely reliable and therefore very desirable for corporate espionage. Annie is blind to the world around her except that she is often given visions of the future that also come true. The two are kept in a school that exploits powers of especially gifted girls for the purpose of spying on other businesses, and every day they need to make the decision of whether to use their powers for something evil or risk their lives and the life of their sister.
The novel ‘Mind Games’ is by author Kiersten White who specializes in writing about the paranormal and supernatural. The book has been getting great reviews, with critics calling it slick and edgy with heart-stopping intensity. Many are saying they can very easily relate to the character of Fia especially, as she tries to grapple with the choices set before her, trying to protect her sister but trying to salve her conscience over what she is forced to do to survive.
The book is meant for adults and young adults but may be a bit too intense for younger children and younger teens. Many of the scenes depict the girls being threatened or in peril as they are being coerced and forced to use their powers for nefarious purposes. These scenes may not be suitable for younger children, but older teens who appreciate that it is just fiction may be able to read through them without disturbance. Adults may also appreciate the dystopian setting and storyline and the adventurous nature of an empathic young woman and one that receives visions.
‘Mind Games’ is meant to be the first in a series; the second novel, still untitled, is due for release sometime in 2014. Many are hoping it is as enthralling as the first, and they are eager to see the continuing adventures of Fia and Annie. Check out ‘Mind Games’ for yourself this season, or consider it as a great gift idea for the avid reader on your list.
