For Romance This Winter, Learn to Tango!
The tango is probably one of the most romantic and most sensual dances you can enjoy. To perform a tango, a man must hold his partner very close and throughout the dance will often bring her into dips and slides and various twirls. The tango often involves some fancy footwork from both partners and it may take up the entire dance floor. If you have never seen a couple tango or are not sure what type of dance it is, look up some videos online and you will see for yourself that it is a very sexy and very romantic dance.
Learning to tango is not as difficult as you might imagine. The steps are typically gliding rather than a boxy step; it resembles a type of waltz in this way, and different styles will involve different speeds and patterns. The tango’s frame is called an ‘embrace’ and needs closeness between the partners but flexibility as well. Those who are just starting out may use a much looser embrace and frame to become accustomed to the dance before they pull each other closer. In many parts of a tango, the man and the woman do not dance the same steps as a mirror reflection, but the man may perform certain steps and then the woman certain steps. These steps are typically done in a four pattern, meaning you step four times to complete them.
To learn the tango, you would want to take a class at a local dance studio. This class will instruct you on the various steps involved for both men and women and how to go through dips and twirls. An instructor will also give you instruction on the embrace. In pure Latin tango, couples may have their entire upper body touching but not their legs. In an Americanized version of the tango, a couple may be touching at the hips but not the upper body and legs.
It is good to learn the tango with a partner if you have one, but you can also take a class on your own and be assigned a partner. Many men and women will sign up for dance classes because they have formal events coming up or because they want to meet other people, so do not be shy about signing up for a class thinking you will be the only woman there without a partner!
If you do have a partner, learning the tango can be great fun during the winter. A class will get you out of the house and will get you active together. Because it’s so sensual, it may even rekindle your romance! Look for a tango class nearby and invest in some low heeled dance shoes, and enjoy your new routine!
