For Some Fun With Fashion, Add Some Jockey-Inspired Pieces!
Jockeys, or those who ride horses, have a distinct fashion. They wear pants that are very form-fitting as they cannot have clothes that would get caught in the saddle. They also wear boots with flat heels to protect their trousers from rubbing against the saddle and to protect their feet and ankles from dirt and mud. As conservative as their clothes may be, they can be fun and fashionable and a great choice for everyday wear.
To add some jockey-inspired fashion to your wardrobe, first start with the trousers. While they are form-fitting, they are also typically made of a cotton and spandex blend so that they can bend and stretch easily. Obviously a jockey cannot get in and out of the saddle wearing tight pants with no room for movement! The pants are also tapered to fit around the lower leg as they get tucked into boots. Thin cotton pants with a slim and fitted cut can be a great choice for casual wear, and you can dress up the patterns and materials. Try a large, oversized plaid pattern or pinstripes for a slimming effect.
Boots are also a fun touch for your wardrobe and those worn by jockeys are distinct in that they are flat, made of a durable leather with little decoration, and slide on rather than having a zipper. You can wear these types of boots with your jockey pants or with jeans, and they can even add a nice touch to your winter suits for the office. The flat soles will keep you safe during winter months and they can be a great change from standard boots with high heels. If you tuck your pants into them, you have a fun and unique look.
Most jockeys also wear a type of collared shirt that is also form-fitting, more so than a standard cotton shirt. It too is often made of a cotton and spandex blend so that it doesn’t move around during riding. The front is often cut in a curve, and this type of shirt is very distinct. Try it with your jeans for a new look.
Wearing all these pieces together may be too much jockey-inspired fashion so you may want to wear separates instead. Try the form-fitting trousers with flat shoes and a nice sweater, or pair the trousers and boots with a longer sweater and a belt. Add some fun jewelry for a feminine look. If you do want to get the entire jockey look, wear all these pieces together and pull your hair back into a sleek chignon you twist at the neck. This will give you a very smart look that is also very unique.
