Gangsta Granny by David Walliams
Go on have a laugh and read ‘Gangsta Granny by David Walliams. Just the name of the author is enough to tell you it’s going to be fun. David Walliams is a British comedic actor known for his character parts in the international TV hits ‘Little Britain’ and ‘Come Fly with Me’. He’s always well known for swimming the English Channel and up the Thames River to raise money for charity.
David Walliams has been referred to as ‘the successor to Roald Dahl’. So this book would make a welcome present to any Roald Dahl admirer. Walliams is as quirky and unconventional as Roald Dahl.
The hero of the story is called Ben and he has a really, really, really boring granny. To make it even worse for Ben, he has to stay at her house. They do really, really, really boring stuff like eat cabbage (shudder) and play endless games of Scrabble (yawn).
Ben just doesn’t think he is going to get through this visit. That is, until he finds out exactly who his granny is. Much to his amazement she was an infamous international jewel thief. To his further amazement, she’s spent almost all her life planning to steal nothing less than the crown jewels.
As if that information isn’t exciting enough, she has decided she needs Ben to help her get the job done.
Like Roald Dahl’s tales, this delightful tale is one that can be enjoyed by both children and adults alike.
This novel has been described as ‘moving and hilarious’. It’s already a bestseller and critically acclaimed by many serious reviewers.
‘Gangsta Granny’ is one of those novels that is placed on the bookshelf and passed from one delighted generation to the next. David Walliams is very funny and a really outstanding storyteller and writer.
