Get An e-Reader?
Many people are still struggling with the change-over to and e-reader. It is not that they are resistant to the latest technology for readers; it is more of an emotional adjustment. They just do not know how they will feel if they do not have a conventional book in their hands. They wonder if they will enjoy reading without feeling the weight of the book and the feel of turning the pages. Besides, conventional books have a nostalgic appeal because it reminds them of the different stages of their lives.
An e-reader is an electronic device that has the capacity to store thousands of books at a time. It is, in effect, a tiny, handheld library. It is highly portable so you do not have to carry a bundle of bulky books. Not only can you view text but you can also view images. However, exactly what you get depends on each e-reader on the market. An e-reader even allows you to turn the pages with a simple touch of the button or screen. This action allows you to remain in control of your reading – just like a conventional book.
The capacity of e-readers does differ i.e. how many books can be downloaded and stored. There are e-readers that allow you to store some books on your computer or a server to be accessed later. Some make use of Wi-Fi and some a wireless connection.
An important consideration is whether you want an e-reader with ink-technology. It allows you to read in any situation such as sunlight. It has no backlighting. Other e-readers are like normal computer screens i.e. not good in sunlight.
If you want to actually see and handle different e-readers before buying then go to a book store that also sells e-readers. Some allow you to handle a demo model.
Many people are reading e-books. These are books downloaded onto an electronic device or your computer. Once again, these books are not conventional ink on paper and bound. A big plus for e-books has always been competitive prices. An e-book is much cheaper than a conventional book. Today, even some of the most popular and respected authors are offering both conventionally printed books and e-books to their readers.
Most e-books are formatted as PDF files. This allows the e-books to be read on any device that can read PDF or on your laptop or desktop. If you use your laptop or desktop then you must have installed Preview or Adobe Acrobat. Or, the e-book must be in a format specific to an individual e-book reading gadget.
There are many readers who believe the e-book is going to take over from conventional books.
- Many e-books can be stored on e-readers or a computer i.e. you do not need lots of bookshelves.

- No trees have to be grown for paper and no paper needs to be recycled.
- Ink does not have to be manufactured.
- This makes the production of e-books eco-friendly and also cheap.
- It is much easier to transport an e-reader or laptop than actual books.
