Get Rid of Adult Acne
We all know about teenagers who have acne. We know how self-conscious they are and how it affects their self-esteem and social life. Having acne is not pleasant as it is clearly visible to all.
It’s not just teens who suffer the hardship of acne. Adults are also prone to this skin condition. In fact, adult acne is far more common than you may think. Did you know that one in five women, who are between the ages of twenty five and forty, have acne?
Acne is when dead cells and oil get trapped in pores and cause blackheads. This blocked debris turns black when it comes into contact with air. If the blackheads become inflamed they turn into pimples. This condition can be spread if you touch your face with unhygienic hands. The inflammation could be so severe that the skin becomes permanently scarred.
If you have adult acne then you need to cleanse your skin. This must be very gently done so as not to irritate the inflammation and swelling. It is essential you don’t rub or scrub your skin. It is preferable to use an exfoliator in gentle circular motions. You could also opt for a gentle salicylic cleanser:
- use a medicated cleanser
- exfoliate two or three times per week
- have a facial using camphor, zinc or sulfur once or twice per month
These are all products you can buy over the counter. However, if your acne is red and painful then you must seek medical attention. You want to prevent scarring. Make an appointment with a dermatologist. He or she will put together a treatment plan specific to your needs.
A dermatologist has the ability to prescribe many different products that are not available over the counter. He or she may even recommend laser treatment.
It is important for women to know that adult acne could be caused by the use birth control pills containing androgen, excessive stress hormones or bad cosmetics.
