Holiday Time is a Good Time for Thieves
Holidays are a time when you are most likely to be away from your home and your vehicle for extended periods of time. There may also be people in your neighborhood visiting from other places and you are not always sure just who you can trust. Here are some tips to help you protect your home and you belongings while you are away.
Keep your belongings close to you or under your watch. When you are visiting in crowded tourists places, keep your belongings within your reach and with your sight. Thieves are often on the prowl for easy targets and know that sightseeing vacationers can be an easy prey. Make sure that you do not leave you things unattended, especially in places like the airport or at hotel lobbies.
Don’t leave things lying around your yard when you go away. When you do plan to go away on a vacation and will not be at home to watch over your things, make sure that you take the time that you need to in order to lock up your outdoor furniture and anything else of value that someone may want to steal while you are away from your home.
Use an alarm on your home and your car. Just having a sign for an alarm system for your home or your car is a deterrent and can help to ward off thieves. You can make sure that this sign is visible by placing it on the front lawn of your home or as a decal on the window of your car. You will make yourself less likely of a target.
Put a lock on your yard gates. Placing any type of non-entry device on your yard will help to keep thieves away. They will simply be more inclined to just go into someone else’s yard that is open and easy to access.
Close you homes windows and doors up. This one may seem obvious, but many people are so excited to go on their holidays that they simply forget to lock up all of their doors and their windows. Make sure that you do a check before you leave your home for a vacation.
Lock away you items in the trunk of the car. Make sure that any valuables or purchases are locked in the trunk of your car when you go away on a holiday and keep your vehicle parked in an unfamiliar place, or in a place where people are coming and going, such as in a campground.
Make sure that you roll your windows and doors up. Keep your doors locked and your windows rolled up so robbers cannot enter your car easily.
Don’t leave your pets in the car with the windows down. You may end up getting your pet and your belongings stolen.
