How to Coordinate Your Winter Accessories to Your Winter Coat
Winter weather means winter accessories, including gloves, a scarf, and a hat. Usually it’s good to check your accessories before wintertime arrives so you can shop for anything that needs replacing, and will have the most options from which to choose. If you wait until winter has arrived before you start to shop, you may see that accessories are picked over and you don’t have as many choices, making it difficult to find what you need and to coordinate your accessories to your winter coat. To do that, consider a few tips.
First keep in mind that you want to match your accessories to your jacket or coat, rather than just purchasing accessories that catch your eyes without giving thought as to how they will complement your pieces. Blue gloves with a brown coat is probably going to clash, so keep your coat or jacket in mind when shopping.
Next, remember that you want to coordinate or complement, as you don’t need to exactly match your coat or jacket. As an example, if you have a light brown coat, you don’t need light brown gloves and a scarf but can choose a coordinating shade of orange, sunny yellow, or winter white. These will add visual interest to your pieces.
For neutral colors of a coat like black or winter white, you can wear just about any color, but think of what will be most attractive. Choose brighter colors to go with your black coat so your wardrobe doesn’t look dull and drab, or darker colors to go with your winter white coat so they don’t get lost.
The materials and style you choose are also important to coordinate with your jacket or coat. If you have a very dressy coat you wear to a professional office, you don’t want to wear casual mittens and a scarf. Choose leather gloves and a soft felt scarf in coordinating shades and a nice fedora hat that matches your scarf. If you wear a casual puffer coat with your jeans, leather gloves may seem too dressy, so choose knit gloves and a matching scarf.
For a casual jacket or even a dressy coat you can also have fun with your gloves and scarf set and still coordinate. Many today come in a wide variety of patterns and colors, and these are a good way to add life to your winter clothes. If you have a black coat, consider a black, red and white patterned scarf and a pair of red gloves.
You might also look for knit materials that have a bit of metallic thread running through them for some shine. Fun colors like hot pink or candy apple red for your gloves and scarves can also be great choices for winter, and coordinate well with brown, grey or black coats easily.
