How to Rock the 90’s Style Today
It may be difficult to think about this, but the 1990s ended almost a decade and a half ago! That means the fashion that was popular during that decade can officially be called vintage and retro, and may be due for a comeback. If you’re looking to add some fun fashion choices to your wardrobe, why not consider some of the best looks of the 1990s and add some of that style to your closet today?
Grunge was a great look during the 1990s and it carried into the Twilight franchise of movies, which were set in the upper Midwest of the United States, the home of grunge music. Plain flannel and high tops were a favorite choice, as were boots even worn with skirts.
You can add some grunge to your look by wearing a flannel shirt over a nice tee and wearing black tights under your shorts or skirt and pairing this with combat boots or hiking boots. Similar to grunge was the motorcycle or biker look, and this too included biker boots along with black leather jackets and ripped or faded jeans. This casual look can work with anyone and is a very comfortable choice for the weekend.
Bold colors were also a favorite choice during the 1990s; if you remember the Spice Girls, you may remember their fun colors and neon pieces. Today’s colors are often more muted and deeper, so you can add some 90’s style by playing with bold and bright color. Try a candy apple red top with your jeans or use some hot pink in your wardrobe. Bright yellow was also a fun color during the 1990s and it can help to keep your winter wardrobe from being dull and bland.
The 1990s were also all about fun accessories for the girls. Younger girls especially on TV shows wore flowered hats and long plastic beads and lots of scrunchies in their hair. These pieces may be too much today but a few simple, colorful pieces can add fun to anything you wear. Ladder some plastic bangle bracelets or wear some colorful plastic earrings during your casual days. Little girl barrettes can be a fun touch to your hair or you might have some silk flowers you can pin on a lapel. Dress up and have fun with your style as they did during that decade.
Have fun with your 90’s fashion but like all choices that are vintage and retro, you don’t want to overdo your fashion options. Avoid scrunchies unless you’re working out and tone down the accessories so they don’t detract. This will keep your wardrobe fun but still appropriate for this decade!
