How to Stick to Your Fitness Goals This Winter Season
Chances are the most common resolutions for the new year involve fitness routines and physical activity levels. If you’re like most people, however, you may find it difficult to stick to those goals longer than a week or two, if even that!
To ensure that your goals this year are met successfully, consider just a few quick tips. First, make sure they’re reasonable and reachable. Start small and work your way up to larger goals; ultimately you may want to run a marathon next season, so start with small goals such as “walk one mile every day” for the first week, then increase that to a mile and a half every day for the next week, and so on.
Second, write out your goals on a calendar or chart so you can keep track of your progress. Every day, note what you did as to your fitness routine and take a moment to compare how it fits in with those goals.
Third, reward yourself along the way. Make these small and reasonable rewards but ones that will help to spur you forward. A new article of clothing, a special night out with the girls, and even something simple like a long hot bath can be reward enough to keep you going.
Lastly, be sure you have a plan of attack for when you don’t follow through with your goals, which will typically happen no matter what. If you haven’t walked at all in the past few days, don’t use this as a reason to give up but ask yourself why you’ve avoided it and make changes. This will help you to keep moving forward to reach your ultimate fitness goals this winter season.
