Shall I Start Working When My Parents Have Financial Problems?
It is a sad fact that many families are suffering from financial difficulties. With the economy the way it is, many families are having difficulties getting back into the lifestyle that they were used to because jobs are just not paying as well as they did. As expenses continue to go up, incomes continue to fall and many times the teens in the family wonder if they should start to work and contribute to their families.
Drop Out or Stay in School
If teens have to choose between working or dropping out of school, they should choose to stay in school. High school drop outs end up costing the community over $200,000 in their lifetime with the government assistance they receive over their lives. Teens who graduate from school end up being contributors to society who are able to take care of themselves and their families.
After School Job
If teens really feel that they must work to help their families, then they can look into an after-school job. However, they should always be sure that they can balance their school work and an after-school job. Graduating from high school is more difficult than it ever has been and it is more important than it ever has been.
No Future for Drop Outs
In the past, high school drop outs could easily find work in a factory or they could find a place in one of the armed forces. This is no longer the case because the armed forces only wants high school graduates because they have proved that they can meet a goal over the course of time. Factories only want employees who have graduated because graduates prove that they can complete a job and they have the skills that employers want. High school drop outs have difficulty finding any kind of well-paying jobs over the course of their lives and they get stuck in the vicious cycle of poverty.
If teens want to help their families when they get into financial difficulties, there are a few things that they can do. Teens can try not to spend as much money on unnecessary things like fast food, sodas, and coffees. Teens can also reduce the amount of money they spend on clothes and accessories. They can also try to get rides from their friends rather than using gas or even needing a car in general.
Enjoy Life at a Low Price
Teens who want to still have nice things and enjoy a coffee can do it at a low price. They can brew their own coffee at home and they can shop at places like thrift stores or even garage sales. There are so many ways to save money and still enjoy life.
Take Care of the Whole Family
The best thing that teens can do to help their parents when the family is suffering from financial difficulties is to talk to their parents. Their parents should know what is best for the family and they should also know what is best for their children. It is a good idea to support the family and to support the teen’s education
