Skin Care for Athletes
For anybody who takes part in physical exercise there is plenty of showers to enjoy. You have a really good workout session or game or race that leaves you tired, hot and very sweaty. Stepping into the shower cubicle and turning on the shower to release a stream of cool water over your tired limbs is one of the best feelings in the world.
If you are an athlete, you may not have given it much thought but this is the first step to caring for your skin. Having healthy skin is very important to any athlete. Imagine if you had a rash or area of discomfort? It would, undoubtedly, affect your performance. Even if you weren’t seriously competing it would affect your level of enjoyment of the sport you love.
It is paramount to show off as soon as you can after physical exercise that produces a sweat. The more you sweat the more salt residue will be left on your skin. Your skin produces sweat all over from head to toe. You must wash off the salt as it could cause a rash – especially in hot weather. Showering also means you make it hard for your skin to harbor any germs that may cause infections.
Use a shower gel that contains aloe vera or green tea. These are natural ingredients that fight free radicals and keep your skin elastic, free from microorganisms, moisturized and clean.
After your shower always make sure in-between your fingers & toes is dry. Also ensure all hard to reach areas like underneath the breasts, buttocks and armpits are dry. Moisture in these areas can cause discomfort and is a breeding ground for germs and infection.
Don’t allow your skin to get dry. Apply a moisturizing lotion containing aloe vera or green tea all over your body. Dry skin could chaff and crack causing discomfort during physical exercise.
