The Great American Beer Festival
The Great American Beer Festival dates back to 1982 and is run by the Brewers Association, an organisation, an educational outfit which aims to provide people with information on beers and brewing. The festival runs over three days and is held at the Colorado Convention Centre in Denver.
The event begins at 5.30 pm on Thursday, 11. October. For Thursday and Friday there are evening sessions only. On Saturday the first event is open only to members of the Association and runs from 12 noon to 4 pm. From 5.30 the event is open once again to members of the public and closes at 10 pm.
The Great American Beer Festival has the distinction of offering the largest range of beers of any festival and it is a great place for the public to try the different varieties. There are tasting sessions throughout the festival and with more than 2000 varieties to be tried visitors can be kept busy for the whole of the festival. Beers come from all areas of the U.S. and visitors can tour the regions in the one conference centre over the course of a few days.
The event and the Brewers Association aim to make the U.S. the largest beer brewing nation in the world. The event has been listed as one of the 1000 top places to visit in the U.S. Those who purchase tickets for the event will receive entry to the three public evening sessions and a programme for the entire festival. Gifts that come with entry to the event include a tasting cup and unlimited tasting samples. The festival guide will help you to find your way around the event so that you miss out on none of the beers that you want to try.
The event is held each year and has been growing in popularity. Those who have an interest in how beer is brewed should attend as the event is also open to those interested in beer crafts and home brewing. Finding out what makes the larger brewers a success could be invaluable information.
Members can access the afternoon session on the Saturday with all the benefits which have already been mentioned and they will also receive the commemorative glass. With fewer people attending this session it is the ideal time for the prizes to be awarded in each of the categories with gold, silver and bronze medals to be given out. Members can take advantage of the reduced crowds to talk to some of the most famous brewers in the country. There are also seminars which take place on beer and foods.
It should be noted that only those who are aged 21 and above are allowed to attend the event and all attendees must have a valid ID. Tickets for the event need to be booked in advance and there is no re-entry system, so those who are in the conference centre cannot just leave and return at will.
