The Louis Vuitton Express Arrived in Shanghai to Showcase His Fall Line
The Louis Vuitton name is synonymous with luxury and style. The label creates some of the best leather handbags and luggage in the fashion industry, and also provides ready-to-wear items as well as accessories, jewelry, watches, sunglasses, and even books. Having a Louis Vuitton bag is a status symbol reserved for those with the most discerning taste.
This year the Louis Vuitton label decided to showcase their upcoming fall and winter pieces by using an old-fashioned steam locomotive engine, with all the models carrying their luggage with them for the show. Porters stood at the ready to assist, as you would expect in a real locomotive. In July, the train rolled its way into Shanghai for a special stop on the tour.
Designer Marc Jacobs said of the collection and their approach, “”We wanted to maintain the romantic journey that the collection represents – the opulence of the brocades and the distant and romantic glamour of travel. I think there is a lightness and a magic to everything that we showed this season, and they are really captured perfectly in [photographer] Steven Meisel’s images.”
Opulence was indeed the word of the day for the fall and winter collection, with lush and thick fabrics in skirts and coats that are perfect for the cooler weather. Soft earth tones made up the majority of the pieces with bits and bursts of color interwoven throughout. Gold brocade jackets and leather dresses added the character and charm that is expected from the Louis Vuitton label.
Because accessories are so important in the Louis Vuitton collection, the models sported high felt hats with feathers and rhinestones for embellishments. Lace-up shoes with platforms and high heels modernized the look of old-fashioned pieces, with some fun ankle straps to add a bit of edginess.
The Vuitton collection of handbags and luggage also did not fail to disappoint, with square steamer trunk-styled bags pared down for everyday use, and classic overnight styles also modernized with edgy metallic embellishments. Pearl and metal buttons were also seen throughout, adding visual appeal.
The entire collection from Louis Vuitton was classic and clean but very eye-catching and very feminine. Longer hem lengths for dresses and coats added a lovely new twist to the style, and the colors and embellishments were just bold enough to keep the look from being bland while nothing was overpowering. The pieces are easily new classics and Marc Jacobs once again did not fail to disappoint with his designs and with his over-the-top presentation.
