Tips for Making Your Home Smell Like Christmas
Christmas is about many things to people; family, gifts, tradition, food, travel, vacations, and so on. To really set a festive mood and to get everyone in the right spirit, you want to think about how your house is decorated and also consider how it smells. The right scents can make anyone and everyone think of the holiday and be ready to share some quality family time together.
To make sure your house smells like Christmas, first think of what you associate with Christmas when it comes to scents. Pine, eucalyptus, and berries are common natural scents you associate with Christmas.
Because Christmas is a time for special meals and special baked goods, you might also consider scents you associate with edible items such as cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate, vanilla, and other baked goods. There are some easy ways to introduce these scents to your home during the Christmas season.
Candles are one obvious choice, but you do need to be careful especially if you have children and pets. Put them up on mantles so they’re out of reach and be sure to keep them far from the tree, draperies, and anything else that is easily flammable.
Potpourri may be a safer option; you can opt for a simmering pot on the stove or a potpourri burner. Scented sachets can be used around the house when you need some fresh scents; typically you use these in drawers but you can tuck a few under the couch or chair cushions in the living room as well.
For an even more natural way of introducing lovely scents this season, consider potted plants and flowers scattered around the home. Bake bread and other items to keep the home smelling like those mouth-watering edible treats.
